I recently participated in the One Room Challenge which is a 6 week online design challenge with hundreds of participants upgrading a space in their home. I had been hearing about it for some time now and decided this was the only way I was ever going to get projects done in my own home. I actually laughed at the concept because I’m known to renovate entire houses in 6 weeks, one room…psshhhaw, no problem!!! Yea right, until paying projects and life gets in the way. So, I made myself accountable to all the fellow participants and followers of this challenge and completed my powder room makeover…yay!!!
I love this space now. It went from builder basic to a beautiful tropical destination. You can’t help but smile when you enter the room…it’s so much fun! See for yourself…
Starting with a view from the entry…
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the wallpaper. It’s a happy print with beautiful vibrant colors and it just conjures up all the tropical feels that bring you joy! Oh, and the photo canvas of Alexa and her BFF, Taliyah turned out so good. I took that picture with my iPhone! Nothing better than natural light.
I’ve had this beach frame forever and recently came across it while clearing out the garage. Seemed appropriate to use it here. I added a picture of Alexa surfing in Maui last year.
This project gave me the opportunity to finally print the photo canvases that has been on my TO DO list. The picture above the toilet is from Ho’ike 2016 (aka Hula Recital) and the other two are from a Tahitian Dance competition last summer. All the colors work so well together!
And as you can see, I chose to highlight the turquoise and orange colors from the wallpaper in the hand towel, rug, and accessories. I tend to keep the accessories to a minimum. There’s no need to overdo it. This is still a space we use and I hate having to move stuff around when I’m cleaning.
By the way, the Blue Hawaii candle smells really good!
