Welcome to A Day in the Life of Al and al!
I’m Alice, the mom. My close friends call me Al.
With me is my daughter, Alexa. I loved that name before she even existed so of course, when I found out I was having a girl (thank you God!), she was going to be named Alexa.
Somehow we became known as Big Al and Little al, aka Al & al. I refer to us as Al & al whenever I sign anything from us and friends inquire about how little al is doing. It just stuck. So…even though I don’t actually call Alexa “al” ever, other than in reference to us as a duo, everybody knows who Al & al are and now, so do you.
This blog is a way for me to chronicle everything that happens in our lives as mother and daughter so that Alexa has a reference point too. As much as I would have liked to have kept a real diary about everything we do, I haven’t so this will be my diary. There will be a lot of throwback content as I am years behind schedule with documenting all the fun things we’ve done. Alexa’s favorite thing to check on my Facebook page is the “On This Day” section so she can see what we did On This Day over the years. This will be an expanded version of that. I attempted to make photo books…that has been an epic fail. I have literally made 4 books, I think. Last one was nearly 5 years ago! I even purchase photo book groupons and didn’t end up using them. They take sooo long!!! I have all my digital photos organized by year and broken down into months… that’s not the problem. The issue is taking the time to go through and choose the photos that I want to incorporate and making sure they tell a chronological story and perfecting the layout and the captions, and oy…can you see why it hasn’t happened? The solution to my inability to get it done is to create this blog for us to remember the birthdays, the school events, the gymnastics victories, the concerts, the parties, the DIY stuff we did together or she did on her own, the trips, ev-er-y-thing!
To all the parents out there, I would encourage you to do something similar. I didn’t keep a pregnancy diary. I mean, I was busy running a business! I was on the go, go, go up until the morning my water broke. I have a journal I started where I would write Alexa a letter every so often to update her on what’s been happening, but I haven’t been consistent. I’ve been thinking about this for a long time and I don’t want to keep putting it off because my girl is 13 years old and I have so much to catch up on as it is.
This blog will not only document our lives, but it’ll also give me a platform to discuss my views on various topics and anyone who knows me knows I have an opinion…or 2 or 3… Feel free to join in on the conversation.
I hope you enjoy our adventures because we sure do.
